Ngarai Sianok



Ngarai Sianok or Sianok Canyon is a valley / ravine beautiful and steep (it about 100 meters), is located on the border of Bukittinggi, in district IV Koto, Agam regency, West Sumatra. A beautiful valley located in Mount Singgalang has become an icon of tourism mainstay of West Sumatra Province. The valley is elongated and meandering as the southern boundary of the city to the canyon Koto Gadang Nagari Sianok Anam Suku / Tribe (West Sumatra Nagari term re-used after the Reformation Era, had previously used the term urban village in the New Order/Orde Baru Era), and ends in the district Palupuh. Sianok canyon has beautiful views and is also one of the prime tourist attractions of West Sumatra province.

 


Indonesian Traveling, View and Beauty - Sianok Canyon stretches along 15 km with a width of about 200 m, and is part of the fault that separates the island of Sumatra in half lengthwise. Fault is known as Fault Semangko / Watermelon (because of its shape like a split watermelon) form the walls of the steep, even perpendicular and form a green valley - the result of the movement of the earth's crust down (sinklinal) - a powered "Batang Sianok" which means the water is clear. Batang its mean River in English. In the Dutch colonial era, the gulf is also called Kabau/Buffalo sanget, because the number of free-living wild buffalo in the bottom of the Ngarai/Gorge.

 



Sianok Canyon has two nearly vertical walls and facing each other. Height of about 100 to 200 meters and a length of about 15 km. This forms the canyon walls where you can see the vast rice fields and rivers. The canyon is separated by Bukittinggi and Mount Singgalang.

The beauty Sianok Canyon can be seen from Panorama Park in Dublin or you can also go directly to the canyon, which is a residential area and paddy fields. Besides the beauty of the canyon, visitors can also visit a Japanese bunker at the bottom of the canyon. Ngarai Sianok is the most beautiful place in West Sumatra, especially at sunrise and sunset.

Sianok Canyon which is also often called "Dream Land of Sumatra" has a very enchanting natural scenery and the cool air. Like a green velvet blanket surrounded by beautiful hills, this beautiful valley appearance when viewed from above. On the hills in the canyon Sianok grow rare plants such as Rafflesia or carrion flowers, medicinal plants, and so forth. At the base of the canyon you can leisurely walk, greet the locals who live in the surrounding residential area. At the edge of the canyon Sianok You can also find a variety of fauna such as long-tailed monkeys, gibbons, hoop, deer, wild boar, leopard, and tapir.

Sianok rod can now be forded by using canoes and kayaks sponsored by a water sports organization "Qurays". The route taken was from the villages to the ellipse Sitingkai Lambah Palupuh villages for about 3.5 hours.

To reach the Sianok Canyon Panorama Park which is only about 1 kilometres from the center of Bukittinggi (Jam Gadang or Big Clock Tower and Pasa Ateh or Market on The Top) can be done using a vehicle or just walk while enjoying the cool air of Bukittinggi City.
